Underground Storage Tanks (UST), oil tanks
One of the more common methods of heating, particularly in older homes is Oil Heat. Oil furnaces are becoming less common as more people are switching over to natural gas. Many people like oil heat,it heats a home quickly, and feels "warm" due it's higher content of BTU's and humidity than natural gas. A more "green" approach to oil heating is the use of biodiesel instead of traditional petroleum based oil.
The most common methods of storing the heating oil are above ground tanks (often located in basements) or in an underground storage tank (UST). Underground storage tanks can be an environmental hazard if they leak. The DEQ (Dept of Environmental Quality) regulates the UST program and decommissioning requirements .
